The Millennium

At the turn of the millennium, an idea emerged: to create a snapshot of our village as it stood in the year 2000.

This vision, known as The Village Domesday Book Project, gradually took shape as John Marsh and his team gathered historical and contemporary material. Though it remained an idea for some time, the urgency to document our evolving community finally struck once the year 2000 was upon us.

Now, in 2024, we are proud to present this collective record on our parish website. From the outset, the intention was that not one person, but the people themselves, would write it.

Through individual contributions, community input, and a good deal of gentle persuasion, the material you find here came to life. We invite you to explore these pages and savour a glimpse of what the parish was up to back then. Enjoy!

Do you own land that has a watercourse or drainage ditch on or adjacent to it?

Answer: Yes –You are therefore a ‘riparian landowner’ and you are responsible for maintaining those watercourses
